Vikings 5th in Gil Brandt’s defensive rankings

One thing that has been consistent during Mike Zimmer’s time with the Vikings has been the strength of the team’s defense.

The Vikings rank fifth in yards allowed and sixth in total poins allowed this season, and they haven’t had their bye week yet.

Gil Brandt from NFL.com ranked his top defenses of 2019 and the Vikings rank fifth.

Here’s a snippet of what Brandt wrote about the Vikings:

Continuity has no doubt helped this defense, which is in its sixth season under Zimmer and defensive coordinator George Edwards. The Vikings’ defense is a steady unit that just seems to refuse to give up big plays. And that has helped (and will continue to help) them weather whatever ups and downs come from the Kirk Cousins-led offense.

The Vikings have gotten another great season from Danielle Hunter. Everson Griffen is back to form. Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks have been great. Harrison Smith is Harrison Smith. And the cornerbacks have survived.

In Week 7, the Vikings will try to shut down the Lions. Offensively, the Lions have been solid, ranking 13th in points per game (23.8 points). The Vikings have allowed 15.5, a mark that ranks sixth in the league.
