Vikings 2024 NFL draft scouting report: Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

Welcome to SKOL Search!

This series will be your guide to the 2024 draft class. From scouting reports to mock drafts and exploring different scenarios, we will be covering the NFL draft and the future of the Minnesota Vikings from all angles.

The focus of the draft class in this space will be on the Vikings’ major needs at quarterback, running back, defensive line and edge rusher. We will also focus on wide receiver since it’s a loaded class and an increased chance to get a Stefon Diggs-type steal in the later rounds.

The Vikings are slated to have 9 picks going into the NFL draft and they need to make the most out of them.

Strengths

USA Today Sports

Harrison is an incredibly smooth mover. He glides across the field and has the top end speed to stack cornerbacks easily. Throughout the process of the route, Harrison has clean footwork. Creats separation at both the line of scrimmage and at the stem with it and gets up to speed quickly.

Route running is crisp and simple. Harrison attacks blind spots well and understands leverage in space.

Is excellent when tracking the football. Sees it cleanly, flashes late hands and catches the ball at it’s high point. Keeps his body under control when attacking the football.

Invites contact and physical play in the open field. Doesn’t get rerouted easily by contact when moving in space and fights through it consistently.

Has great vision in the open field. Isn’t his forte but when there is space to run, Harrison takes advantage and is one step ahead of the defender.

Is an absolute dog in run blocking. Gets after it consistently and takes out defenders.

Weaknesses

USA Today Sports

Can get a little bit too excited to run with the ball in space and has a few concentration drops on his record.

Physicality is something that he invites but can hinder him at the stem. Shows some struggles to fight though contact at that point.

If you want to call Harrison the best wide receiver prospect of all-time, I wouldn’t fault you for it. His game is so crisp and clean across the board pairing the ability to be technically sound with an explosive element you don’t often get from a technical wizard. Just an incredible prospect in more ways than one.
