Vikings’ 2021 salary cap space amid NFL training camp

Among Vikings fans, there has been a lot of talk surrounding Kirk Cousins’ contract situation.

Despite all the different takes about it, many people agree that — given the circumstances — the team has done a good job of maneuvering the cap this year.

Minnesota made another savvy move recently, signing Dede Westbrook. Westbrook’s cap hit won’t be too hard on the Vikings, considering he signed a one-year deal worth $1,127,500, per KSTP’s Darren Wolfson.

PFF’s Brad Spielberger tweeted that Westbrook’s deal will presumably be the veteran minimum if that is the total money. That would make a cap hit of about $987,500, per Spielberger.

That doesn’t affect the salary cap too much. According to Over the Cap, the Vikings still have roughly 12.3 million in salary cap space when Westbrook’s contract hits the books.

So Minnesota has some more room to maneuver throughout free agency if the team really wants to. Maybe a veteran guard or defensive end will pique the interest of the Vikings.
