VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has cancelled the special council meeting, to discuss and approve GO no.198 issued by the state government for calculation of property tax, to be held on Monday. VMC secretary sent a notice to the mayor, deputy mayor, ward members and officials of the VMC that they have postponed the meeting as they do not have sufficient information to hold a discussion on the order.
The VMC council had initially thought of approving the bills in its meeting held on 15 July 2021.
However, opposition parties opposed the proposed tax hike and user charges on garbage and held agitations.
A Satyababu, a CPM corporator, wrote a letter to the mayor that a minimum of one week’s notice should be given to the members before conducting a council meeting and that no such thing happened. He warned that they will take up the issue in the court if VMC did not follow due procedures.
