Vijay Goel, Ravi Tandon elected as DBSA's president and secretary general

NEW DELHI: Vijay Goel and Ravi Tandon have been unanimously elected as the president and secretary general, respectively, of the Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association (DBSA) here.

In the XXXXV annual general meeting (AGM) of the DBSA, Manmeet Singh Bhatia and Aysuh Bansal were elected as the two joint secretaries while Akhilesh Garg bagged the treasurer's post. Abhishek Rastogi, Amarjit Singh and Ritesh Kapoor were elected to the new executive of the DBSA as vice presidents.

The executive committee (EC) will have a three-year term.

On the occasion, the DBSA announced that this year's state billiards and snooker championships will be organised in the memory of Wilson Jones, a professional player of English billiards from India, who won the amateur World Championships twice, in 1958 and 1964.

He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 1963, the Padma Shri Award in 1965, and the Dronacharya Award in 1996. He was the first Indian to be a World champion in any sport. He passed away on October 4, 2003.

Tandon informed that the federation had started with Wilson in the year 1978, when exhibition matches were played at the Maurya Sheraton hotel here to promote the game. "DBSA was formed in the year 1977 and worked tirelessly for the promotion of cue sports with Wilson Jones, Michael Ferreira, Arvind Savur and Girish Parikh," he added.
