Vigilante protest over sex offender claims sees cops swoop on Glasgow street

A ‘vigilante protest’ in Glasgow has been met with a heavy police presence after a large crowd of locals gathered in a street.

Video and pictures on social media show around 100 people crowded on the street near a property on Estate Road, Carmyle, with multiple officers and a riot van in attendance.

Cops descended on the gathering on Wednesday evening and remain at the scene.

Locals claim the protest was organised amid rumours that a sex offender was living in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were made aware of a crowd gathered on Estate Road in the Carmyle area of Glasgow during the evening of Wednesday, 23 September, 2020.

"Officers remain in attendance."
