Vigil to be held in Nottingham city centre in memory of dad who died in Spain

A major vigil is set to be held in the city centre following the death of a popular Nottinghamshire dad who died while on holiday. A poster highlighting the event near Old Market Square suggests artists such as Bru-C and former N-Dubz singer Tulisa will be in attendance at 6pm on Saturday, August 20.

It is in memory of Tobias White-Sansom, who died on Sunday, July 31, following an alleged incident near a nightclub in Majorca. He grew up in Radford and is the brother of Nottinghamshire entrepreneur Maximillian White, who owned a property on the island.

The brothers both lived in Dubai but were on Majorca for a holiday with their families. Tobias was taken to hospital on July 26 and placed in an induced coma after an incident at the Boomerang nightclub.

Tobias's cousin, Ricardo Capone, is one of the organisers of the vigil, which will also reportedly include musicians Mist and Saskilla. Ricardo said: "They are all personal friends, and of Toby as well. It wasn't a case of asking, those guys were whatsapping me and asking me how they can get involved.

"They approached us as they are his friends and they are here in the UK, so they want to be involved. We want to raise as much awareness and have as big of a conversation as possible, so I think that people using their platform in order to help us achieve that is something wonderful to come out of the celebrity world."

According to Sky News, Spanish Police have confirmed judicial authorities are investigating the sequence of events that led to Mr White's death but could not comment further about the incident.

The vigil is due to take place around the Brian Clough statue and Ricardo thinks it's important that people meet in person as "everything is so online nowadays, and we tend to find that we are very desensitised online".

"I want to get people together so we can feel that human connection," he added. "We need to be together, we need to share our thoughts, our stories, our happiness and sadness."

Mr White-Sansom's family are trying to bring his body back to the UK. Speaking to Sky News from Spain, his mum, Lorraine Thompson, said: "It's absolutely horrific. I've had meltdowns where I've wanted to go home. I'm currently faced with a situation where I'm having to stay here and listen to this story over and over again.

"That causes me so much pain as a mum and I just want to run away. But then there's another part of me that wants justice for Toby."
