Vigil star Martin Compston hits back at Twitter troll who made 'crap' jibe

Scottish TV star Martin Compston has hit back at Twitter trolls after the ending to the critically acclaimed show, Vigil, was branded 'crap'.

Compston, who exited the show after the first episode of six, originally left fans annoyed as they expected a bigger part for him in the show. Even though he had little to do with the outcome, Compston still came under fire on social media.

After the roaring success of BBC's Line of Duty, which Compston played a key part in, fans had high hopes for Vigil, a six part drama based on the death of a crew member (Compston) onboard a British submarine.

Suranne Jones, who plays DCI Amy Silva, is tasked with finding who was responsible for the murder but instead finds herself unravelling a tale of conspiracy.

After the ending to Line of Duty, fans were left a little disappointed with how the show concluded. The award-winning show, which made a name for itself with a constant combartdment of action and plot twists, was expected to go out on a bang.

Instead the show had a more sensible ending than people had hoped for, but that possibly left the door open ajar incase another season was to be filmed.

Vigil certainly didn't have the huge anticipation of a blockbuster ending to the show. Instead, the story was wrapped up in a way most could have expected, with DCI Amy Silva uncovering the perpetrator behind the madness onboard Vigil and was later reunited with her daughter and loved ones.

One fan in particular did not see the conclusion as satisfactory, and hit out at the Greenock actor on Twitter, saying "So that's Vigil and Line of Duty that had really crap endings, choose the next series wisely, you don't want to make it a hat trick". This message was directed towards Compston, in which he replied with his typical laid back humour.

"I know Dave pal I've made an arse of it. One of the biggest new drama of the year the other biggest drama of the year/century. Agents for the sack". This is the response from Compston, one in which people who go after him on social media usually find themselves on the receiving end of.

The first episode of Vigil attracted an audience of 10.2 million across seven days, making it BBC's most watched drama series of the year.
