Vigil's final episode leaves viewers with sweaty palms after graphic murder in first half hour

*THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS*

Stressed out viewers complained of having 'claustrophobic anxiety' and sweaty palms as a huge audience tuned into Vigil's final episode on Sunday night.

Since making its highly anticipated debut over August bank holiday weekend, Vigil has become the most talked about drama on TV as Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones leads the cast as Amy Silva, the DCI tasked with going onboard the submarine and being plunged to the depths of the sea after a murder on the vessel.

The past five weeks have given BBC viewers enough twists and turns to make them seriously sea sick, with episode 5 being the most dramatic to date as, having tried to get to the bottom of another death on Vigil.

After she and Glover donned Hazmat suits to investigate, Amy was dragged into a torpedo tube by another member of the crew - *SPOILER ALERT* - Matthew Doward.

She was left panic stricken and fearing for her life as she realised she was trapped, with her attempted to bang in Morse Code to draw attention.

After becoming aware that the crew had picked up on these, Doward's attempts to wreak havoc on Vigil and stop Amy from passing on vital evidence, took an extreme turn as he tried to flood the bow of the boat by taking on water and then brutally murdered Lt Commander Prentice, who himself had fallen under suspicion earlier in the series.

While some finales take their time to build the tension, all of this happened by the half hour mark, leaving viewers needing a lie down in a darkened room, by the time Doward was finally detained.

One took to Twitter to post: "switched over from #TheRyderCup to watch #Vigil I was depressed now I am claustrophobic, anxious and stressed. dunno which is worse!!!!!"

A second reacted: " #Vigil is so brutal so much stress," and a third tweeted: "just stress eaten an entire bag of popcorn"

Amy being trapped in the tube was too much for some to take, with another commenting: " Vigil is giving me serious claustrophobic anxiety just watching it!!" and, equally freaked out, another responded: "Never felt as claustrophobic as I do watching #Vigil "
