Vigil on BBC One: When is it on, who's in the cast, how many episodes are there and what is it about?

New BBC One drama Vigil comes from the same team who made Line of Duty, Bodyguard and The Pembrokeshire Murders and will be on TV before August is out.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by BAFTA-nominated writer Tom Edge and has an amazing cast of British acting talent, more on that below.

Filmed in Scotland, Vigil follows an investigation after a crew member is found dead onboard the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil - only the sub is still in operation as the UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken.

When does Vigil air?

Episode one will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday, August 29, with episode two at 9pm on the Bank Holiday Monday, August 30. Vigil will then continue each Sunday night, with new episodes premiering weekly on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Who's in the cast?

Hold onto your hats, this is a great cast.

Suranne Jones leads the cast as Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva who must go aboard to begin an investigation.

Alongside her is Endeavour's Shaun Evans, Line of Duty legend Martin Compston and The Leftovers, Peep Show and Timeless' Paterson Joseph.

Three Game of Thrones stars also appear: Rose Leslie (Ygritte), Stephen Dillane (Stannis) and Daniel Portman (Podrick).

The ensemble cast also features familiar face Connor Swindells from Sex Education, Adam James from I May Destroy You and Doctor Foster and Billy Elliot's Gary Lewis.

Bodyguard's Anjli Mohindra plus The Bill and Born to Kill's Lolita Chakrabarti are also in the cast.

How many episodes are there?

There will be six episodes of Vigil.

Where was Vigil filmed?

Filming took place at various locations across Glasgow in August and September 2020 including the Squinty Bridge and Finnieston Street, Hamilton Park Avenue in the west end and the streets around Blythswood Square.
