Vigil held for tragic Scots teen who took own life as dad pays tribute to 'best wee buddy'

A vigil has been held for a tragic Scots teenager who took her own life as friends rally to raise thousands of pounds in her memory.

Tegan Johnston, 18, from Glasgow, passed away suddenly on March 10, with pals paying tribute to her “big smile and infectious laugh”.

Friends and relatives gathered to remember the teenager - who celebrated turning 18 just last month - by letting off balloons and lanterns at Riddrie golf course on Sunday night.

And the tragedy has sparked a crowdfunding campaign which has raised more than £4,000 in just a matter of days.

Breaking the news to friends that Tegan had taken her life last week, dad Darren Johnston wrote on Facebook that he was “heartbroken, sad and totally lost”, saying he “couldn’t have asked for a better child.”

He said: “I love you so much Tegan and I’m going to miss you forever u were more than just my daughter u were my best wee buddy. U were my wee everything I’ll always love you princess.”

A friend wrote: “You told me secrets I told you mines you were the nicest young lady I’ve ever me. You will always have a place in my heart and will be my angel forever."

Another pal shared images of lanterns in the sky at Tegan’s vigil, saying: “The most beautiful turn out for the most beautiful girl.

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”

A Go Fund Me Page set up by Tegan’s friend Chloe Sims described her as a “dear loving friend, daughter, sister, cousin and grandchild”.

It said: “Anyone who knows Tegan knows how much the room lit up once she walked in, her big smile and infectious laugh would make anyone’s day.

“Tegan was so loved my many and will be sadly missed by many more.”

It added: “Everyone knows suicide isn’t being spoken about as much as it should, sadly it’s taking it’s toll on many.

“Rest in peace Tegan, it’s not a goodbye, only goodnight beautiful, see you soon. Forever 18.”

More than £4,200 has so far been raised, which will be used to support Tegan’s family and give her the “best send off she deserves.”
