Viewpark residential development application approved by council

Councillors have awarded planning permission for a new housing development in Viewpark.

Wilson Developments sought permission for a block of 24 flats, 16 cottage flats, six terraced and two semi-detached houses to on a former office site on Philip Murray Road where the previous buildings have already been demolished.

Last year the council granted permission for a residential development but the version approved on Thursday, August 19, is a revised plan with more emphasis on two-bedroomed properties.

Two objections were received, concerning access to nearby bin stores, traffic levels and the use of the homes as social housing.

The bins were assessed as being adequately far from the development, the council’s roads department had no concerns and the presence of social housing is not a valid planning consideration.

The committee therefore granted the application, subject to recommended conditions and pending a Section 75 agreement where the developers will contribute towards increased schools provision.
