Viewers slam 'petty' Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard for quizzing Angela Rayner on AirPods

Good Morning Britain viewers were not impressed with hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway as they interviewed a MP on Thursday's show.

Angela Rayner appeared on the ITV programme via video link to discuss the amount of money that has been spent on the coronavirus test and trace system.

However, Ben and Kate were keen to point out the fact that 40-year-old Angela had purchased a pair of £240 Apple AirPods and then claimed the money back on expenses.

"One of the things you’ve been accused of is putting in an expenses claim for your AirPods," Kate said to her.

"Now, you may argue that that was necessary in a tech world when you’re trying to operate in lockdown, but that doesn’t look good and it’s very easy to point the finger isn’t it?"

"Well, £249 on a pair of AirPods so that I can carry out my job, which on average I use four hours a day now on Zooms, is nowhere near billions of pounds that has been wasted on contracts to people with no experience whatsoever," Angela replied.

"So, my answer is that we wouldn’t mismanage the finances going forward, we would ensure that the management of finances is prudent as it should be, as it’s taxpayer’s money and reward the workers that have been on the front line, putting their lives at risk and give them the pay rise that they deserve."

Despite Angela defending her actions and trying to bring the conversation back to Matt Hancock and the amount of money he has spent, Ben and Kate didn't want to let it go.

Viewers took to Twitter to slam the presenting duo for mentioning the AirPods in the first place.

"WTF is Kate Garraway going in about? "Y'know." #GMB #goodmorningbritain (sic)," one viewer tweeted.

Some viewers slammed Ben and Kate for their comments and called them 'petty' (ITV)

Another fan of GMB posted: "Airpods, is that the level of intelligence this show has dropped to ? #goodmorningbritain @GMB."

A third added: #"goodmorningbritain attacking @AngelaRayner for claiming on expenses for air pods for her job whilst defending the government “spaffing up the wall” millions is bloody laughable!!"

A fourth viewer fumed: "WHY ARE THEY COMPARING THE MP CLAIMING ON AIRPODS COMPARED TO THE GOV WASTING BILLIONS ON S**T LIKE TRACK AND TRACE!!!!! #goodmorningbritain."

And another viewer simply tweeted: "airpods?? come on ben and kate!!! lets not be petty #goodmorningbritain."

Someone else penned: "#goodmorningbritain Really folks this pursuit of balance reached absurdity today comparing the cost of earphones claimed by Angela Rayner against those claimed by Matt Hancock as evidence of Tory financial rectitude.

"Maybe look again at your unconscious bias and sense of irony!" they added.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
