Viewers 'shivering with excitement' after RTE's new comedy Dead Still airs

With the temperature dropping and the nights getting darker, a new TV show is always very welcome at this time of year and RTE's new show Dead Still has already resonated with viewers.

In terms of the plot, the show is set in Dublin at the tail-end of the 19th century.

It focuses on the fortunes of Brock Blennerhassett (Luther and Spaced's Michael Smiley) a pioneering photographer who specialises in memorial portraiture - he creates portrait photography of the recently deceased.

Renowned memorial photographer Brock Blennerhasset tries to revive his business after an accident, requiring the assistance of his estranged niece Nancy Vickers and his over-enthusiastic new assistant Conall Molloy.

After a rocky start, their working relationship begins to develop but it appears someone more sinister is getting in on the death photography game.

Basically, he takes family portraits that include lost loved ones, which was honestly a thing that was done in those times.

Along with his niece Nancy and a gravedigger with photographic ambitions, Brock finds himself on the radar of a Dublin detective, who thinks there's a camera-related link between various deaths.

The show also stars Eileen O’Higgins (Brooklyn), Kerr Logan (Game Of Thrones), Aidan O'Hare (Dublin Murders), Jimmy Smallhorne (Love/Hate), Peter Campion (Derry Girls) and Martin Donovan (Big Little Lies).

In terms of the first episode, the plot saw Brock Blennerhasset (Smiley), Conall Molloy (Logan) and Nancy Vickers (O'Higgins) being thrown together in a story of a family feud, a vengeful husband and a stolen photograph.

Equal parts period drama, murder mystery, and dark comedy, the six-part gothic costume drama has made a solid start and resonated with viewers.

"A breath of fresh air" and "a brilliant first episode, looking forward to the rest" are just some of the praise being directed towards Imogen Murphy and John Morton's new show.

"Dead Still great viewing tonight on RTE, roll on next Sunday," "just watched the first episode of Dead Still. Love it," and "Dead Still was great, I haven't laughed like that at anything RTE's put on in a while," are some of the other reactions too.

In terms of the plot, viewers were also gripped by the twists and turns that unfolded in the first episode.

"Dead Still was so good!!! Loved the spookiness, the comedy and left me dying (excuse the pun) to see more!" and  "I was shivering with excitement with all the twists and turns throughout the episode!" are some of the comments by the show's new fans.

For those that missed it, the first episode of Dead Still can be viewed on RTE Player ahead of the new episode airing on Sunday at 21.30.
