The highly anticipated murder documentary series on the life and murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier landed on Netflix days ago and has remained at number 1 in Ireland since.
The three-part documentary series tells the story of the 1996 murder that became a national obsession in Ireland and France.
Although other documentaries have aired in the past, followers of this case were given exclusive access to Sophie Toscan du Plantier’s family for the first time in this latest project, bringing together the testimony of her entire family with that of Ian Bailey, the man at the centre of the investigation.
The case has been surrounded by controversy for years, as the main garda suspect, Bailey, has yet to be tried in Ireland.
Last year a French court tried and convicted Bailey in his absence, although the Irish courts have recently ruled against his extradition, so he will remain a free man in Ireland while Sophie’s family continues to fight for justice.

Since its release, Irish viewers have been jumping online to voice their upset over the fact that the family has yet to have any justice in the death of Sophie.
One viewer of the series wrote; It’s f***ed up how she still does not get the justice she deserves, up to this very day.”
Another said; “Just finished “Sophie a murder in west Cork” on Netflix it’s a must-watch. You’d feel awful for the family involved all these years and still no justice.”
A third wrote; “We finished watching Sophie: A Murder in West Cork tonight and it is just so haunting. Her poor family. I don’t know how they have the strength to keep going.”
Ahead of its release, Executive Producer, Simon Chinn revealed said this was “the only documentary project ever to have been made with the blessing of Sophie’s family.
“We feel it’s critical to properly understand who Sophie was as a person and the events that led her to her terrible fate.”
