Viewers left stunned as ref mic picks up All Black star's foul-mouthed blast at Johnny Sexton

Referee microphones have been a fantastic addition to the sport of rugby.

They allow viewers at home, and some in the stadium, to hear exactly what the referee is saying to the players when he explains his decision.

It's brilliant insight that helps onlookers understand what is going on and the decisions that have been made.

Occasionally, they even pick up what the players are saying to each other, which can be even more interesting.

Unfortunately, though, that can often lead to some fruity language being picked up.

In the first half of Ireland's clash with the All Blacks in Dublin, such a situation unfolded.

Ireland captain Johnny Sexton, who is notoriously vocal during matches, got involved in a rather lively dialogue with Luke Pearce as he complained about something that had happened earlier in the passage.

“I don’t tell your team how to play moves," Pearce told Sexton as he told him to back off.

“We’re doing our jobs.”

As he backpeddled, Sexton continued to complain.

Arriving on the scene, New Zealand's replacement hooker Dane Coles was picked up saying: "Christ, he's a mouthy c***, isn't he?"

A little unsavoury, to say the least and referee Pearce instructed him to calm down.

Coles was on the field because starting hooker Codie Taylor was serving 10 minutes in the sin bin for a high hit on Sexton himself.

The score at half time was 10-5 to New Zealand.
