Viewers left in tears over Peter Kay's Amarillo 2020 during BBC Big Night In

Viewers tuning into last night's BBC Big Night In were moved to tears as an emotional re-make of Peter Kay's 2005 hit Amarillo aired on TV.

The comedian returned to TV screens - after more than two years out of the spotlight - during the show with a 2020 version of (Is This The Way To) Amarillo.

Introducing his new video from his garden in "sunny" Bolton, he said the re-make is to show support for the NHS and key workers making big sacrifices during the pandemic.

The funnyman can be seen in the video alongside an array of key workers and even Tony Christie, who made an appearance via greenscreen.

Masses of viewers watching confessed to tearing up, with many taking to social media to praise and applaud the comic.

One viewer posted: "Great to see a bit of Amarillo one of the best ever pieces on one of these shows"

Another added: "Never thought i would be sitting here crying at is this the way to amarillo but here we are."

"Crying at Amarillo like an absolute baby!!!" A third put.

A fourth admitted: "Did not expect Amarillo to be the thing to make me seriously emotional."

"When you sit and cry at (is this the way to) Amarillo you know you got issues....well done everyone." Wrote another.

Someone else put: "Sobbing at Peter Kay recreating Amarillo."

Another added: "Amarillo 2020 was a lovely treat. Put a smile on my face."

The video comes after an earlier appeal where the comic says he received thousands of clips of people marching to his version of the song.

Key workers featured in the video include an army of nurses, firefighters, binmen and care staff who made their own clips to the classic tune - some of them 'very emotional', according to the star.

Nurses and others - employed by the NHS and any other part of health and care - we have never needed them more.
So let’s show them some love, and create a living map of gratitude from every corner of Britain.
By dropping a heart  on this map,  you’re saying you appreciate the efforts undertaken daily in the NHS.
