Viewers left in stitches after Micheal D Higgins' hilarious interview with Tommy Tiernan

Viewers were left in stitches after Michael D Higgins' hilarious interview on the Tommy Tiernan Show.

The President joined the comedian for a rare interview on RTE One last night.

At the start of the interview Mr Higgins was asked about getting older, and opened up about ageing, RSVP Live reports.

He said: "I'm going to too many funerals of good friends of mine, and that's sad.

"I didn't come on your show to depress everybody."

Soon after changing topic to Brexit, where the President had the audience in stitches.

He joked: "Our next visits, we may have our neighbours....they're still talking to us, even if they have in fact discovered greatness again."

However, Mr Higgins said he "hasn't had the pleasure" of meeting Trump yet, as he doesn't "play golf".

Tommy was keen to quiz Michael on his past in the rare interview, with Higgins saying he did the leaving in 1960.

Before Tommy interjected to ask if he was 'repeating?', Michael was quick to set the record straight saying, "a fantastic Leaving Tommy, Greek and Latin and everything."

The ever-inspiring politician ended the interview by offering some advice, "As long as you're drawing breath, stay curious."

To conclude the interview in the best possible fashion, when Tommy asked when he would be seeing him again, Michael simply replied ,"Well, you know where I am."

Fans on Twitter were also going wild for the interview with one user writing, "Two of the greatest living Irishmen onscreen to bring us down from the exit poll. This is TV perfection."

Meanwhile, another added, "Our President is the feckin’ best! #TommyTiernanShow"

Another user said, "Ah lads, Michael D and Tommy Tiernan, a match made in heaven! Intelligence, wit and empathy, loving it."
