Viewers in agreement that Baz Ashmawy should be considered for Late Late Show role

Viewers of The Late Late Show on Friday night flocked to social media to throw their backing behind Baz Ashmawy as speculation continues to swirl around the next host of RTE's flagship weekend programme.

Baz, 47, joined Ryan Tubridy last night to discuss a wide range of topics and his personality shone to the point that many watching felt he would be a natural replacement for Tubs, who will step away from his Late Late Show role at the end of this season.

The DIY SOS presenter remains an outside contender in the betting but he will likely see his odds slashed after his endearing chat with Tubridy this weekend.

Among the subjects discussed by Baz on Friday were tributes to Johnny Aylward, his thoughts on becoming a grandfather and the details of a recent confrontation with anti-refugee protestors.

Having come across so well, Baz saw a deluge of support to succeed Tubridy in The Late Late Show role.

"Baz should defo get the gig. He has the ability to go from serious to lighthearted and he's very likeable," one Twitter user posted.

Another wrote: "Baz to host the #LateLateShow plz".

While a third added: "Can Baz host the #LateLate and run the country too? Legend!"

"Hoping this is a secret ploy to announce Baz as the next presenter of the Late Late," another tweet read.

Claire Byrne remains the odds-on favourite to take the Late Late reins next, while Sarah McInerney and Angela Scanlon also find themselves in the running.

Baz recently opened up on the Late Late Show race and insisted the leading contenders are deserving of their place.

"I think the best person will get the job and that’s the way it should be," he told The Independent.

"It just so happens that the best three are women, ironically. But they should get it because they’re the best, not because they’re women."
