Viewers hail Glasgow medics after debut appearance in new Channel 4 Show

A Glasgow paramedic duo appeared on a brand new Channel 4 show on Monday evening, and viewers are praising the pair for their quick-thinking and skills to save lives.

Niall and his colleague Darren Black, an advanced retrieval practitioner, are two of the medics who feature in Rescue: Extreme Medics, a new Channel 4 series following the Scottish Ambulance Service's EMRS (Emergency Medical Retrieval Service) and the new Scottish Trauma Network.

This Scottish team of paramedics, consultants and first responders cover 30,000 square miles and 90 islands, looking after some of the most remote communities in Europe.

The first episode aired on Channel 4 on Monday night, and fans have shouted out Niall and Darren for their work on the show. In the episode, the pair race to a remote area of Skye to help Euan Lindsay, a pylon engineer trapped under a quad bike.

The 9pm viewing has drawn a large audience, and many have taken to social media to praise the Glaswegian paramedics for their heroic efforts.

One Twitter user said: "I’ve really enjoyed the excellent programmes about the NHS trauma network in London & SE but often wondered how trauma innovation works in Scotland, with our less dense population. So I thought @Channel4‘s #Rescue #ExtremeMedics about @ScotTraumaNwk was really interesting."

Another wrote: "#Rescue #Extrememedics on Channel 4 , fascinating watch , brilliant co-ordination & work from all emergency services."

And a third said: "I don't know who can see channel four UK but new series of extreme medics in Scotland is amazing."

More comments read: "Watching Rescue: Extreme Medics on C4 right now and just want to say - people of Scotland - just take care out there ok. Can’t cope with this", and "Rescue: Extreme Medics There are no words for the amazing work @EMRSscotland & @scotambhelimed5 do. Absolute heroes.

The next episode of Rescue: Extreme Medics will air on Monday April 4, and follow a team based in Aberdeen who travel to the scene of a plane crash outside of Elgin in Moray.

Rescue: Extreme Medics will be repeated on Wednesday, March 30 at 12:05am, and the next episode will air on April 4 at 9pm on Channel 4.
