Viewers given 'best laugh of 2020' as live Limerick GAA draw goes hilariously wrong

Facebook users were given the "best laugh of 2020" when a mishap sent tickets flying during a draw to win a brand new Mercedes-Benz in Limerick last weekend.

Limerick GAA teamed up with local car dealer Frank Hogan to offer a brand new Mercedes CLA180 as the prize in a draw raising funds for the county teams.

And, on Saturday afternoon, the day came for the lucky winner to be announced.

The county revealed the lucky winner in a video posted to their Facebook page however it wasn't the first attempt at the draw.

An original video was posted showing the draw taking place where a representative thanked everyone for taking part in the competition.

He said: "I would like to thank everyone who has purchased a ticket be it physically or online.

The winner of the draw received a brand new Mercedes but not before a funny mishap had people in stitches (Frank Hogan Mercedes-Benz)

"And I wish you the best of luck. We will now proceed with the draw."

He then turned from the microphone and began to spin a large clear drum which held hundreds of tickets.

However, the opening door where tickets were placed inside the drum was left wide open causing dozens of tickets to fall straight out onto the ground as it was spun.

After quickly realising what had taken place, a voice is heard saying: "Ah Jaysus Christ,"

Like something out of Father Ted, the tickets are all quickly collected from the ground before the camera man is told to cut.

The page subsequently uploaded a video showing the draw taking place without any mishaps, but not before an eagle eyed viewer recorded the original and posted it in the comments.

The mishap gave locals a giggle with one saying it was the "best laugh of 2020" while another jokingly added: "I think I saw a ticket float past my house."

Frank Hogan who teamed up with Limerick for the draw was able to see the funny side of the blooper moment in a post on Facebook.

He said: "Well done to Diarmuid Kiely of Kilmallock on winning a brand new Mercedes CLA180 in Saturday's Limerick GAA Competition.

"Few hiccups along the way but hey!!

"Congratulations and Merry Christmas!"
