Viewers furious as game show host's 'mistake' helps contestant win £15,400

A game show host has faced fan backlash after being accused of mishearing a contestant and potentially gifting her prizes worth £15,400.

Popular show Wheel of Fortune challenges guests to complete word puzzles and spin the famous carnival wheel to determine the value of the prizes they take home.

Although the show hasn't been broadcast in the UK since 2001, the US version remains on air and last week caused huge controversy with fans.

When the game came to contestant Angela Evans, she was asked to choose a letter in a bid to reveal more of the clue on the giant board.

Fans think the host misheard Angela (Wheel of Fortune)

Angela asked for a letter which host Pat Sajak heard as 'D' - although many viewers were convinced she had actually said 'B' instead.

The potential mix-up proved decisive, with the 'D' helping the guest complete the puzzle, which she then correctly guessed as 'Drinking from a coconut'.

Angela progressed to the next round, where the same mistake was almost repeated, as reported by news.com.au .

The letter was vital in solving the clue (Wheel of Fortune)

The contestant requested the letters B, H, D and A, before being asked to confirm if the third letter was a D and she corrected the host to say it was a B. She then changed her mind and confirmed it was a D.

She ended up heading home with prizes worth £15,400 and Wheel of Fortune fans took to social media to complain, convinced the show had given her a helping hand.

One wrote: "SHE SAID B!!!!! NOT D!!! She shouldn’t have won this round Pat!!! Wow."

Another said: "Omg this is outrage! Her winnings should be taken away! She said B."

"She knew what letter she called and it was a b. She is a cheater," wrote a third.

Luckily for host Pat, Angela herself popped up in a bid to clear things up, saying: "Nope. D. As in definitely said D."
