Viewers feel awkward as Theresa May act strips off while waving an EU flag on Britain's Got Talent

Well how's this for timing?

It isn't what many were expecting to see the day after the Prime Minister resigned- but jaws dropped when a Theresa May impersonator stripped off and waved the EU flag on stage on Britain's Got Talent.

In eyebrow-raising scenes Kath Thompson took to the stage to ABBA’s Dancing Queen while doing the robotic-style dance made famous by Mrs May at the start of her Tory party conference speech last year.

Then Kath, wearing the PM's signature leopard print kitten heels, took the performance on a risque turn by whipping off her trousers and stripping to a revealing black swimsuit with daring cutaway detail while waving an EU flag.

Viewers in the audience were left bewildered and host Declan Donnnelly gasped: “I can’t ever un-see that.”

It all started quite low-key (Syco/Thames)

Judge Simon Cowell praised the act as "incredible” while David Walliams joked: “If this doesn’t solve Brexit, I don’t know what will.”

"The show has already peaked with a dancing Theresa May," said one viewer on Twitter.

But another thought: "This is unfortunate..."

Another said: "This Teresa May act is a bit awks now isn’t it??"

"Bad timing" tweeted another.

Kath's performance was screened just a day after Mrs May announced her departure date from her role as Prime Minister.

In a statement outside 10 Downing Street, the PM said that she'll step down as Conservative leader on June 7, paving the way for a contest to decide who will be the new PM.

Kath's act was certainly topical (Syco/Thames)

In her emotional speech , she said it was time to step aside after failing to get her Brexit deal through three times.

Her voice cracking, she said: "I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold.

"The second female prime minister, but certainly not the last.

"I do so with no ill will, but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve the country I love."
