Viewers cringe as This Morning's Philip Schofield and Ruth Langsford share awkward moment at NTAs

Viewers of the National Television Awards were left cringing after an awkward moment between Phillip Schofield and Ruth Langsford.

The suspected rivals took to the stage to accept the award for Live Magazine show.

The whole team collected the gong, but it was the tension between the two which really got people talking, Mirror Online reports.

Ruth allegedly lodged a complaint about Phil last year after he interrupted her live on air.

Phil did actually thank Ruth during his acceptance speech, saying: "Eamonn and Ruth, your Fridays are fantastic. We love you so much. You should say something I think."

But it was Ruth's reaction which had people wondering if their bond was genuine.

Ruth did not look at Phil as she thanked him and when he touched her arm, did not react.

Viewers took to Twitter to make their assessment of the reaction.

One viewer said: "#NTAs loved when Phil trying to show all one big happy family. I don’t think he realised it was Ruth who he put arm round. Ruth’s face was a picture. Definitely most uncomfortable moment."

Another added: "Phil & Ruth of This Morning.... AWKWARD"

"The most awkward chemistry on TV goes to This Morning. Got to love Ruth for clearly showing what she felt! No amount of Holly gushing about Phil could help the situation!"

A third agreed: "Still looked a bit frosty on #ThisMorning award with Ruth and Phil"

Last year, ITV dismissed rumours of a "toxic atmosphere" on the breakfast TV show as "malicious gossip".
