Viewers convinced former Love Island star's revelation proves producers 'manipulate' storylines

Viewers have long suspected Love Island producers have a firm hand on the drama in the villa - and they reckon a former star has confirmed it.

Malin Andersson, who appeared in the second series of the ITV2 dating show in 2016, claimed that during her time on the show, bosses got very involved in proceedings.

Malin tweeted the claim after Michael Griffiths decided not to leave the villa with Joanna Chimonides, despite declaring that he’d 'found everything he was looking for'.

In scenes aired earlier this week, Joanna was livid and grabbed Michael’s face, raging: “If you’ve found what you want, you better leave mate.”

Malin was in a similar situation herself, but the other way around - she was dumped from the island and the boy she was coupled up with, Terry Walsh, ended up staying despite them being very close.

It later created one of the series biggest moments when Malin came back into the villa to confront Terry, who by then had coupled up with - and slept with - another Islander, Emma-Jane Woodham.

Addressing Michael’s decision to remain in the show, Malin tweeted: “Terry told me after I left that the producers told him to stay.”

While many of her followers were quick to point out that no one can be forced into doing anything, others suggested that producers would likely apply some pressure to try and keep people on the show.

Fans of the show accused ITV bosses of influencing storylines this week as Joanna's departure left Michael sharing a space with former flame Amber Gill, who later admitted she still had feelings for him.

A spokesperson for the show denied the claims, telling the Manchester Evening News : "The opinions the Islanders have, decisions they make and the relationships formed are completely within the control of the Islanders themselves."

Love Island continues on ITV2 at 9pm.
