Viewers baffled as The Chase contestant makes 'shocking' move to lose £7k

Viewers were left baffled and angry when a player on ITV's The Chase accepted a minus £7,000 offer.

Contestant Elaine, the fourth and final player on Monday's episode, made the shocking move despite a decent cash builder of £6,000 and the option to play for £67,000 from the Beast.

It came after another player, Nigel, has already managed to secure the team £33,000 for the final chase, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The Chase fans were left unimpressed by Elaine's decision (ITV)

Making her choice, Elaine, a shop owner from Preston, said: "I am awfully sorry, but I am. I think together we might just do it."

"Absolutely infuriates me when the last contestant on the Chase goes for -£7000. Bloke on his own earlier gets £33k and now they’re gonna have to possibly share £26k..... want them to be caught but feel for the bloke who got £33k... #TheChase," added a third.

"Disgraceful," began another, "That poor guy risked it and got £33k for that loser to come along and take -7k hope shame if she wins any of the money #TheChase."

Before a fan sadly added: "Hope everyone is having a fantastic Monday mine was going great until that woman on #TheChase just took the -£7000 offer."

Elaine didn't just take any minus offer - it was a minus £7,000 offer (ITV)

Speaking to host Bradley Walsh before taking on the popular game, Elaine said she would have spent her winnings on getting her driveway resurfaced.

When Bradley asked how much she'll need to win, Elaine responded: "Probably more than I'll win but there you go."

In the end, both Nigel and Elaine, went home empty-handed when they didn't quite get ahead of quizmaster Mark Labett.

Cue enraged Chase fans.

"I HATE people who take a minus offer! I don’t think it should be allowed! A lower offer should always be in profit even if it is only £1! Elaine should’ve lost that! # TheChase," one raged.

Another said: "Shame on you for taking the low offer Elaine. Nigel is fuming. #thechase."
