Viewers amazed at how police brought Liverpool drug lord Paul Prescott to justice on Channel 4's 24 Hours in Police Custody

Viewers were shocked by Channel 4's 24 Hours In Police Custody programme as Liverpool drug lord Paul Prescott was taken down by police.

Prescott, from  Huyton , Liverpool featured in tonight's episode of 24 Hours in Police Custody being questioned shortly after his arrest at Manchester Airport.

The 55-year-old was tracked to the airport trying to flee the country to Spain after police found evidence of his involvement in a £3million conspiracy to flood the UK with Class A and Class B drugs.

Following the find in a warehouse, Prescott became Bedfordshire's most wanted criminal.

On tonight's show, Prescott arrived at Luton Police Station after being arrested at Manchester Airport.

While the job was run by officers in Bedford, detectives in Luton were responsible for interviewing Prescott.

This was due to the stretch on resources faced by teams across the force.

DC Scott Hannam stepped up and led the interview with Prescott and his solicitor from Liverpool.

Prescott initially decided to give a ‘no comment’ interview but following a heavy amount of evidence linking Prescott to the case - the drug lord eventually cracked.

DC Hannam told him: "Your blood was found on the bag inside a crate that contain cannabis.

"Do you have any explanation at all as to how your blood ended up inside a crate that has come from abroad and ended up in England?"

DC Hannam then showed Prescott images of the drugs 'in case he didn't believe him'.

Pointing to the photographic evidence, Hannam tells him: "This was one of the bags of cannabis, and your blood or what turned out to be your blood was found here.

"You've cut yourself and bled on to this bag, how are you able to explain that?"

Prescott returned after consulting his lawyer. He gave another prepared statement saying he bought cannabis while in Spain, and passed the packages onto another person.

However, Prescott was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service - with viewers praising DC Hannam for his policing skills.

Another said: "That interview was going nowhere for a looooong time, suddenly he's pulled it out of the bag."

A third wrote: "#24HoursinPoliceCustody what an interview! Textbook example of #cardsclosetoyourchest."

At court Prescott denied organising the shipment, but admitted to packing one of the six crates of herbal cannabis.

He was jailed for 26 months in September 2017 at Luton Crown Court.
