Vieira, Tomiyasu, Smith Rowe: Arsenal injury news and expected return dates after Leicester

Arsenal have made an ideal start to the brand new Premier League season, taking two wins from their opening two. They remain one of only two sides to have a 100% win record at this stage, a stark contrast to last campaign's three losses from the first three fixtures.

An impressive summer has seen plenty of transfers make their way into the side early too, giving Mikel Arteta plenty of time to get his players prepared. That's not to say it's been all plain sailing going into the new season though.

Some key players have struggled with injuries before the game against Leicester, with the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Fabio Vieira all a doubt for the game. The Spaniard confirmed that three of the four had trained for the game, but refused to specify who.

Out of the bunch though, Smith Rowe, Tierney and Tomiyasu all made cameos against the Foxes, with Vieira the one that was missing through injury. Last week, Arteta said that the Portuguese winger would need more time to recover and that he would be back in training this week, saying that he had an "unlucky" start to his Gunners career after suffering the injury while on international duty with Portugal's Under-21s.

Here is a run-down of all the latest Arsenal injury news:

Kieran Tierney

Tierney faced a setback in his recovery from a knee injury sustained back in April during the Gunners' first pre-season friendly against Nurnberg.

The Scotland international returned to first-team training last week as he stepped up his recovery and made an appearance from the bench against Leicester City.

What Arteta said: "He played 15/20 mins last week and did really well. He’s been out for a long time after the knee injury. But he looks in perfect condition now and ready to go."

Takehiro Tomiyasu

The Japanese international has struggled with calf issues in pre-season after an injury-hit first season with the Gunners, but he is back to full fitness, having trained with the first team this week.

The full-back finally made his return to action from the bench against the Foxes.

What Arteta said: "They’ve been reintegrated into training this week, all of them. They are in different phases, but some of them will be in the squad tomorrow."

Emile Smith Rowe

The Hale End academy graduate has been suffering with a groin issue but is back from that and had a short spell from the bench at the weekend.

He may struggle to break his way into the starting XI just yet following Gabriel Martinelli's goalscoring performance in the opening two fixtures.

What Arteta said: "They’ve been reintegrated into training this week, all of them. They are in different phases, but some of them will be in the squad tomorrow."

Fabio Vieira

The least likely to make a return soon, the 22-year-old has been carefully managed in pre-season and has only just returned to training.

He will need some minutes in the bank and could play for the development squad before he makes his way onto the Gunners' bench for a competitive fixture.

What Arteta said: "They’ve been reintegrated into training this week, all of them. They are in different phases, but some of them will be in the squad tomorrow."

Reiss Nelson

The midfielder suffered an injury problem in training this week and is likely to be unavailable for at least the Leicester fixture, unfortunately, as confirmed by Arteta.

What Arteta said: "He felt something in training, we scanned him, and the doctor came with bad news. It’s a muscular injury; hopefully, he will be back soon. [We don't know how long for] yet. They need to do another test, and hopefully, next week, we’ll have more information."
