Vidyut Xavier on losing his mother to COVID-19: Whatever I’m today is because of her and vow to never quit because she taught me never to

Vidyut Xavier couldn’t have asked for a better show than Dhadkan Zindaggi Kii to make his acting debut on TV. Reason: The medical drama is a breakaway from the usual saas-bahu sagas. While the finite series -- produced by Nilanjana Purkayasstha and Herumb Khot -- is expected to wrap up soon, Vidyut says that working on the show has been a learning experience. He adds, “What I learnt during the pandemic was reaffirmed while shooting for this show. I have great regards and huge respect for doctors and the medical fraternity in general. I am really good at action and dance and would now like to entertain the audience in these two genres.”

While he is happy about making headway in the industry, the one person he misses a lot is his mother. Vidyut lost his mother, Swati to COVID-19 in May last year – just two months before he started shooting for Dhadkan. He shares, “I lost the only person who dreamt of my debut as much as I did or probably even more than me. Ever since I told her that I wanted to become an actor at the age of 13, she always encouraged me. She got so emotional and teary-eyed when I broke the news about bagging my first show and even wanted to accompany me to the sets. However, neither could she see my shoot nor could she watch my show.”

Talking about how she influenced his life and continues to be his strength, he says, “My mother was the strongest woman I ever knew and a fighter. Every rejection that I faced in these 16 years, she faced them with me. The reason I never gave up on my dream was my mom. The belief that she had in me that I will become a successful actor was phenomenal. Even when things were not good for us financially and I couldn’t support my family monetarily, which is expected from the eldest child in the family, she never complained. She was my rock and will always be.”
