Videos of supermarket singer serenading Lidl shoppers go viral

Soprano Lily Taylor-Ward has been keeping shoppers entertained on her breaks from working on the till at Lidl.

What started as a regular spot on Clap for Carer evenings, continued - and won her global fans.

Facebook videos of her supermarket performances have been viewed more than one million times and she has garnered 5,000 followers on the social media site.

The London College of Music graduate, who left with a First Class BA Hons, has been performing for various functions after she returned home and took up a part-time job at her local Lidl in Sandiacre.

The 24-year-old online singing teacher said she started taking requests at the supermarket and likes to sing what people want to hear.

"One song which is really popular at the moment is Over The Rainbow," says Lily. "I do a laid back jazzy version. You Raise Me up was one of the first songs I performed which I dedicated to the NHS'.

"It's been amazing. I can't believe how big it has gone. I still don't see it as a big viral thing. I think, 'hey, it's me, I'm a Nottingham girl who just likes to sing outside'. When I sing, I am my happiest".

Lily had been asked to sing for Captain Tom's 100th birthday but then the pandemic happened and he became famous for walking laps of his garden in aid of NHS Charities Together, attracting over 1.5 million individual donations.

Lily recorded The White Cliffs of Dover for Captain Tom which was played to him on Easter Sunday. She posted the footage on her Twitter account and it attracted one million views.

She says: "It was a beautiful thing to have done".

She also sang for Prince Harry when he visited a community recording studio in St Ann's

After singing her own version of Never Enough from the Greatest Showman, Lily says he told her he loved the film and it was the best version he had heard.

"He was absolutely lovely and charming," she added.

In 2011 Lily was made an honorary member of the Rotary Club International. The youngest ever.
