A video of a number of rail passengers falling onto the tracks after a night out has been released by British Transport Police (BTP) in the hope of warning others not to drink too much over the festive period.
Staggering along the platform the people then tumble off, potentially putting themselves into the path of trains.
Pointing out that 21 people have died in alcohol-related incidents on station platforms in the last 10 years, BTP said it wanted to highlight that the railway and alcohol can be a dangerous mix.
As a result they are teaming up with Network Rail this Christmas to encourage people to ensure their friends get on their trains safely.
Advice being given to potentially-intoxicated passengers includes:
Standing back from the platform edge, behind the yellow line
Holding onto the handrail on stairs and escalators
Walking – not running
Texting British Transport Police on 61016 to report an incident
