This week: police station death, Pattaya reopening and restriction easing

Fugitive Pol Col Thitisan Utthanaphon, aka Jo Ferrari, surrendered to police in Chon Buri on Thursday evening.

He went on the run after the posting of a video clip on social media Tuesday which showed a suspect being suffocated to death with a plastic bag.

The alleged incident happened during an interrogation by Thitisan at the Nakhon Sawan police station  where he worked.

A search of Thitisan's Bangkok home found 13 luxury cars.

Pattaya seems unlikely to reopen to tourism on Sept 1 as planned. Local businesses blame the delay on red tape and a slow Covid-19 vaccine roll-out.

Restaurants may soon be allowed to resume dine-in services, but only for fully vaccinated customers.

Domestic flights will likely resume next month with the same restrictions.
