Video: ‘The Alpha Ginger’ lands thunderous walk-off spinning backfist at LFA 74

Friday night, Spike Carlyle kicked off LFA 74 with a bang.

In the main-card opener, the California-based lightweight Carlyle (7-1) squared off with Matthew Colquhoun (6-4). Despite being seven inches shorter than his opponent, Carlyle ended the bout in the first round in an emphatic, highlight-reel manner.

As the first round wound down, the two fighters scrambled to their feet. Carlyle, who had his back to Colquhoun, spun and clocked his opponent with a speedy spinning back-fist. Colquhoun crumpled to the mat. Instead of hitting his downed foe, Carlyle decided to coolly walk off instead. No follow-up shots were need, as referee Mike Beltran swiftly waved off the bout.

With the victory, the 26-year-old Carlyle has now won his last three fights. His lone career loss as a professional came at the hands of Serob Minasyan at CXF 12 in April 2018.

As a result of the loss, Jamaica’s Colquhoun had his two-fight win streak snapped. Entering the bout, two of his three losses had come at the hands of PFL’s Ray Cooper III and UFC welterweight Miguel Baeza.

Carlyle’s wild spinning backfist knockout can be seen in the video below:

LFA 74 took place at Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, Calif. The main card aired on AXS TV.
