Video shows wheelie bin attempt escape from Los Angeles floods

It seems humans aren't the only ones who struggle to cope with bad weather.

At least not in Los Angeles, where footage has emerged of a wheelie bin rolling down a flooded street, in an apparent escape attempt.

Artist Brad Walsh captured the phenomenon from a car, with his fellow passengers stunned by the bin's deftness in navigating the rising water.

Comments such as "It just turned left!", "She handles well, look at her," and "Someone is definitely driving," are all heard from the surprised observers.

The brave bin comes amid record rainfall in the Southern California area due to the storm El Niño

The escape attempt comes to a dramatic end

As Bill Patzert, climatologist with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge, told the Los Angeles Times, "This is not a bashful El Niño. This is a brash El Niño."

The severe weather is partly welcomed after four years of drought in California, yet flooded roads and mudslides have damaged several vehicles in the region.
