Video shows victim found slumped beside jeep after Dublin gang batter him with shovel in Finglas

This is the terrifying moment that a man is found slumped beside a jeep after a dangerous Dublin gang batter him to within an inch of his life using a shovel as a weapon.

The victim, who is known to Gardai and has appeared in court over minor offences, posted pictures of his injuries on Facebook following the attack and branded the gang "morons" after surviving their five-on-one armed assault in Finglas, Dublin Live can exclusively reveal.

The man received severe blows and cuts to his arm and elbow at the hands of the violent group who ganged up on him on Monday afternoon in the Cardiffsbridge Road area of the northside.

Mostly dressed in all black, the group - who appear to be relatively young in age - spot the victim down the road at the start of the video and make a dart to corner and confront him.

The distressing clip then goes on to show the man slumped against a black jeep a couple of hundred metres down the road.

At this stage, the thugs can be seen strolling away from the scene as one of them carries the weapon in their hand.

The narrator of the video can be heard saying "the whole place is going mad" before adding "that man there is laid out after being hit by the spade, shovel whatever you want to call it. [That group] is crazy."

Dublin Live has contacted Gardai about the attack.
