Images of the white Audi which allegedly drove at, struck and injured a NSW police officer outside Cooma late last month have been released by NSW police.

Police said investigations were continuing in an effort to track down the driver of the car after the officer was hit and injured by the vehicle on the Monaro Highway at Nimmitabel about 8.20pm on Monday, August 30.

The officer suffered serious head injuries and had to be airlifted to Canberra hospital for emergency treatment. He has since been released and is recovering at home.

Officers were in pursuit of a stolen ute on the Monaro Highway on August 30, about 10kms outside Cooma.

The ute stopped, the driver got out of the car and started to run.

As one of the officers gave chase on foot, the driver of the stolen ute was seen getting into a white Audi two-door coupe, police said.

Police said the Audi then struck the officer as it drove away.

The stolen luxury coupe was found burnt out in the ACT a day later which suggests the perpetrators may live in the Canberra region.

CCTV of the stolen Audi was released by NSW Police. It shows the car driving in Cooma about 4.05pm, then on Polo Flat Road about 4.07pm on Monday August 30, before it headed south to Nimmitabel - the same day the crash occurred.

Anyone who may have any information, including dash cam vision, that may assist detectives is encouraged to call officers at Monaro Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
