Video shows sickening moment dog is tangled in wire fence during fox hunt

Sickening footage has emerged showing the moment a dog became tangled in a wire fence during a fox hunt.

The video was filmed on November 7 by the Glasgow Hunt Sabs group, who monitor and disrupt hunts, in this case a Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Hunt, the Daily Record reports.

The hound is heard yelping in pain during the distressing video after it becomes stuck in the fence.

In the clip a man says 'hound is whining and stuck in the fence' as the camera pans over to reveal one of the dog's hind legs is trapped.

It's high-pitched cries are heard as the man filming shouts 'Oh God' and 'Jesus Christ' before running over to help.

A group are then seen around the animal which is shown to have bloody injuries.

A statement released by the saboteur group reads: "The Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Foxhounds once again look on as one of their hounds gets caught in barbed wire fencing. You can hear from her cries how distressed she is.

"The hunt were closer to the hound than we were and there’s no way they couldn’t hear her calls.

"Thankfully sabs were there to free her and the hound escaped with minimal injuries.

"So telling that the hunt only feigned interest once they realised we were there with our cameras."

The distressing clip has been viewed more than 18,000 times online.

Animal welfare chiefs have slammed the scene.

Scottish SPCA chief superintendent, Mike Flynn, said: "This video is upsetting and clearly shows that the dog is in distress.

“This incident highlights how the dogs used by participants can be injured during the hunt.

"It also goes to show that hounds are not under any form of control during the pursuit of a target animal.

“The Scottish SPCA remains opposed to fox-hunting and will continue to campaign for a total ban on hunts.”

Robbie Marsland, a director at the League Against Cruel Sports Scotland, said the video was 'abhorrent'.

He said: "It is horrible to watch and totally abhorrent what we see in the video.

"The hound was being sent into deep cover and it was lucky there was anyone around to help.

"Hounds are supposed to be kept under tight control and only used to flush foxes from cover for them to be shot.

"But clearly this isn't the case here and there have been other examples of hounds running onto roads and being killed.

"Why the hound was on its own doesn't make any sense."

A remarkably similar scene was witnessed in March again in Renfrewshire.

Footage shows the dog whining as it hangs from the razor sharp wire.

One of the hunters then picks the hound up and holds it by the scruff of the neck as a Glasgow sab attempts to remove its paw.

The video has been viewed more than 25,000 times on Twitter with many people calling out the hunters for alleged animal cruelty.

Animal charity the SSPCA launched a probe into the March incident.

The animal charity said at the time: "We’ve got major concerns about whether or not this complies with the law around hunting, and it certainly appears dogs in the clip need veterinary treatment."

Hunting with dogs was banned in 2002 but the law allows for foxes to be flushed from cover by hounds.

The Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Hunt have not responded to request for comment.
