Shoppers dashed into Boots as soon as it opened its doors this morning to stock up on hand sanitiser - with some grabbing up to four bottles.

Some customers wearing masks ran to the aisles when Boots in the intu Victoria Centre opened its doors at 8.30am on Tuesday, March 17.

Staff told customers that they were only allowed two bottles each, as some cradled four bottles in their hands.

Some also wore gloves as they entered the store.

They dodged an elderly lady who was slowly pushing her trolley into the store.

Tesco has restricted sales of these and other items to five per customer and other supermarket chains have put in place similar restrictions.

The food retailer in Tamworth Road, Long Eaton, will be opening for two hours on Wednesday morning (March 18) so older shoppers can get what they need.

Iceland says the move is not company policy but comes as supermarkets across the country attempt to stop customers stockpiling.

There are now a total of 24 COVID-19 cases in the city and county.

Bosses at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) confirmed a man in his 90s has died after testing positive for the virus while being treated at Queen's Medical Centre.
