Video shows Manchester Airport baggage botch as suitcases pile up

Passengers arriving at Manchester Airport were met with a baggage failure last night as suitcases toppled from a carousel.

This video shows luggage piling up on the terminal floor while passengers were still making their way through security.

Holidaymakers had to dig through the pile to find their suitcases.

It seems no airport staff were on hand to help.

Passenger Matt Tasker was on a Vueling flight from Barcelona to Manchester.

He tweeted a picture of the chaotic scene when he arrived at Terminal 3 at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

He wrote: "Got to hand it to Manchester Airport. They find new and exciting ways to be the worst airport in the world."

Matt told the M.E.N that a long wait at passport control meant all the bags were on the floor by the time any passengers got there.

He added: "It looks like one got jammed in the exit hole and caused the pile-up of bags. I pointed it out to a member of staff who shrugged and walked off.

"We found our bags at the bottom of the pile quite quickly so we didn’t hang around to see if anyone eventually came to sort it out."

A spokesperson from Manchester Airport said: “In this instance it appears that a bag blocked the carousel door, for a short period of time, and in turn created a backlog of luggage.

“The reason for it happening, which could be due to several factors, is currently under investigation with staff and third parties involved in the baggage process.”
