Video shows LAPD shooting bank robbery suspect

Oct. 26--A man was taken into custody by police in downtown Los Angeles on Monday morning after he allegedly tried to use the threat of a bomb to rob a bank, authorities said.

The FBI responded to a reported robbery at Chase Bank off 9th and Hill streets about 9:40 a.m., said bureau spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

The man was carrying a bag and told people inside the bank that he had explosives on him, LAPD Officer Drake Madison told KTLA-TV.

Because of the bomb threat, an LAPD bomb squad also went to the scene and made sure the suspicious package posed no danger, authorities said. Video taken from a witness outside the bank and obtained by KTLA shows officers approaching a man standing in front of the bank.

The man reached down to a bag at his feet and grabbed what appeared to be a wad money, throwing it at the officers, who had their guns trained on him. A shot rang out and the man fell to the ground before being taken into custody.
