Video shows hundreds of bikers in tribute to Rock City bouncer 'Rat'

Hundreds of bikers have paid tribute to a former Rock City security boss who died last month.

A video supplied by @Newsflare/Matthew Lockhart shows flocks of bikers riding through Sutton-in-Ashfield in a procession for Derek Rate.

Rate, known by friends and family as 'Rat', worked at the famous Nottingham club during the 1980s and 90s.

The former Rock City employee, who was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire, died on August 23 at the age of 67.

At one stage of the video a car can be seen driving ahead of the motorcycles with a sign on the back made of flowers saying 'bruv.'

The person shooting the video can also be heard saying 'you're going nowhere mate' when a Nissan attempted to pull out in front of the traffic.

Matt Lockhart said: "I noticed a lot of people standing on the payments with their phones out so I went to have a look what was going on.

"As soon as I realised it was a biker funeral procession I knew it was going to be something truly spectacular, they really know how to show respect and solidarity!

"I have truly never seen so many awesome bikes in one place. Neither myself or the people around me could quite believe where all these bikes were coming from!

"It's just a shame a driver in a Black Nissan had no respect or patience and kept trying to creep forward to jump into a gap that never materialised.

"Rest in Peace Rat, you were obviously an amazing person and very highly thought of and respected."

The video showing the long queue of motorcyclists was filmed on Friday, September 10, and lasts for over five minutes.
