Video shows hundreds gathering in Dublin City Centre despite growing fears of Delta variant

This footage shows a jam-packed Capel Street at the weekend as hundreds flocked to the city centre despite worries about the dangerous Delta variant.

To celebrate Pride weekend revellers flocked to the capitol city's streets to enjoy the weekend and scorching hot weather.

They enjoyed takeaway pints and cans while impromptu dance parties and sing-songs took place near the location of popular Dublin bars.

Capel St had recently been pedestrianised in an attempt to trial an outdoor summer.

Due to the Delta variant the re-opening of pubs indoors looks unlikely.

Senior Government ministers, however, have been discussing a “compromise” reopening of bars and restaurants indoors from next Monday.

The proposal, which will also be discussed at Tuesday morning's crunch Cabinet meeting, would see extra restrictions introduced for indoor dining.

This would include less customer capacity and tables further apart indoors.

And it would be accompanied by a new public health message urging people who have not been vaccinated not to eat or drink indoors for the time being.

One senior Government source told the Irish Mirror that this would be a “soft version” of the idea mooted briefly that only vaccinated people would be allowed avail of indoor dining.
