July 06--The state attorney's office of Florida says a video released Monday shows Florida State freshman quarterback De'Andre Johnson punching a woman at a Tallahassee bar last month.
Johnson, 19, turned himself in to the Leon County jail last week on a notice to appear for misdemeanor battery and was released on a $500 bond.
The Tallahassee Police Department says that Johnson punched a 21-year-old female FSU student on June 24 while waiting to be served at Yianni's nightclub. According to the police report, she suffered "bruising under her left eye, swelling to the left cheek and upper lip and a small cut on the bridge of her nose" after the incident.
Johnson left the scene, police said, but was named by witnesses and identified in a photograph by the female student.
The initial charge under investigation was of felony battery. It was downgraded after a detective's probe, which included security video from inside the bar.
Johnson was suspended indefinitely from the football team the day after the incident but is eligible to be reinstated since the charge is a misdemeanor, according to the FSU student conduct code.
Johnson enrolled at FSU in January and completed 8 of 11 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the Seminoles' spring game. He was not expected to receive much playing time in the fall behind quarterbacks Sean Maguire and Everett Golson.
