Video shows fire crews tackling flames over 6ft in grass blaze

Mobile phone footage has emerged showing crews tackling a grass fire at a Merseyside park .

Mersey Fire and Rescue were called out to Rimrose Valley Park in Litherland at around 1pm today ( Friday) following reports of a blaze.

Three engines were sent out to the scene and the fire service said that at its height the blaze affected around 2,000 square meters of the park.

Video footage shared with the ECHO showed crews tackling flames well over six feet high, sending large plumes of black smoke across the area.

Crews can be seen trying to get the flames, which had sent plumes of smoke in to the air, under control.

Earlier today the blaze was so fierce that smoke billowing from the scene could be seen as far away as Prestatyn in North Wales.

The fire service said that the main body of the fire was put out by 1.56pm today.

At 2.39pm there was a further update to say that the fire had been completely extinguished, but that crews had stayed at the scene to damp down the ground.

Rimrose Valley, popular with walkers in the area, has experienced a number of grass fires in the past.
