Footage has emerged of England Test cricket vice-captain Ben Stokes throwing about a dozen punches in a late-night brawl that left him with a broken finger and a cloud hanging over this year's Ashes campaign.
In the video, Stokes fights with several men outside a nightclub on Monday night after celebrating his side's one-day international victory over the West Indies in Bristol, in south-west England.
At one point in the video, published by The Sun, he appears to land a punch that leaves one man lying in the middle of the road.
One man was hospitalised with facial injuries after the fight.
The all-rounder was dropped from the next game, but was named in England's 16-man squad for the Ashes series beginning in Brisbane on November 23.
However, former Test stars Michael Vaughn and Kevin Pietersen were among those predicting the display from a senior player did not bode well for England's chances in the southern summer.
Batsman Alex Hales, who was out with the 26-year-old Stokes after the match, had returned voluntarily to Bristol on Tuesday to help police with the investigation, the England and Wales Cricket Board said.
Stokes suffered a fracture to his right hand in the incident, but England and Wales Cricket Board director of cricket Andrew Strauss was confident the injury would heal in time for the Ashes series.
Strauss said the board would conduct a thorough investigation before deciding Stokes's fate.
"There is a formal kind of disciplinary process that is in the players conditions of employment," he said.
"We need to go through that and follow that process properly. So for him and for anyone else who might be subject to disciplinary proceedings, that process will happen, and obviously it's important that we just give ourselves time to do it properly."
Stokes has a chequered off-field record. He was cautioned by police after being arrested for obstructing police during a night out in 2011.
The allrounder was sent home from an England Lions tour of Australia the following year for flouting rules on late-night drinking.
He missed the World Twenty20 in 2014 after breaking his hand while punching a dressing room locker in Barbados while enduring poor form. Last year, Stokes was convicted of speeding for a fourth time.
