Video shows drastic change in number of flights over Ireland now compared to same time in 2019

A video highlights the drastic change in the number of planes over Ireland last week compared to the same time in 2019.

The current global health crisis has grounded thousands of flights every day.

And while airports remain open for essential travel purposes, holidays have been cancelled and countries have restricted the amount of flights coming in from some of the worst-hit areas in the world.

EuroControl posted a clip on Twitter tracking the flights over Ireland last Thursday, April 9, and compared it to Thursday, April 11 of last year.

Dublin Airport re-tweeted the video, saying there was an 84% decrease in the number of airborne flights between the two days.

It tweeted: "There were 298 flights in Irish airspace yesterday including overflights. That’s down 84% compared to the corresponding day last year.

"We’re open as an essential service in line with Irish Government policy."
