Video shows dramatic moment roof collapses onto busy street

Video has been released that shows the moment pedestrians were nearly crushed by the collapsing roof of a three-storey building.

Footage released by Hammersmith and Fulham Council shows bricks and debris plummeting to the ground, as pedestrians try to avoid the danger.

The council said no one was seriously hurt in the incident in Uxbridge Road, Shepherd's Bush, west London, although the footage appears to show a man being struck by the debris.

Seconds before the collapse, the video shows a window being opened below the roof.

The building is undergoing renovation to include a loft conversion and three flats, the council said, with high winds blamed for the collapse.

The property's owners were overseas at the time of the incident on Saturday. An emergency dangerous structures contractor was called in to clear the debris and secure the building.

The council said there is "no further immediate danger to the public".

A spokesman said: "The Health and Safety Executive have been informed of the incident and the road and pavement have been reopened."
