Video shows dad being rescued by Arnold firefighters after getting stuck in playground equipment

A dad had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in playground equipment in Arnold.

Paul Clark spent over half an hour trapped in the children's helicopter 'rocker' after he'd got on to demonstrate it to his young daughter.

The 37-year-old trainee photographer became stuck and had to be rescued by firefighters after getting wedged on Sunday morning, May 19.

A video showing the incident at the playground in Ashington Drive in the town was taken by his young daughter.

Paul said: "It was actually quite scary. It was quite embarrassing.

"Some people think I was wasting the rescue team's time but if I hadn't called them I'd still be stuck right now."

Paul said he became wedged in the helicopter spring rocker after his daughter asked him to show her how it worked.

He said: "I thought as a treat I'd take my three children to the park.

"My youngest daughter asked what the helicopter was and said she wouldn't go on it until I did first.

"It was a bit of a tight squeeze. I was on for about five minutes before I tried to get off but I couldn't. She thought it was hilarious and started filming it."

Residents fear Arnold is becoming 'dangerous' after recent spate of vandalism

Paul gradually became more and more tangled in the rocker and even ripped his trousers and smashed his phone.

He said: "I was rattling around and slid down further. I was wedged in and ripped my trousers and smashed my phone.

"I thought if I kept wriggling I would be able to get out but it really hurt. It was getting a bit ridiculous.

"Eventually after about half an hour I got my daughter to pass me her phone and I rang the fire brigade."

Paul was eventually rescued by four firefighters from Arnold fire station who screwed the frame off the rocker to release him.

He said: "They got some bolt croppers and were going to chop the handles off but I didn't want them to ruin the rocker.

"In the end they screwed the handles off with a special drill so you can't tell there's any damage to it."

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called out at 8.37 on Sunday morning.

They confirmed that one male was stuck in playground equipment, and he was released by firefighters from Arnold fire station. The incident stop time was 8.59am.
