Video shows crowds flocking to Strathclyde Park despite coronavirus lockdown measures

A video shared on social media shows crowds flocking to Strathclyde Park today despite social distancing measures being in place.

The footage shows rows of cars lined bumper to bumper along the entrance to the Motherwell park.

Jennifer Findlay posted the video to Twitter, with many expressing their concerns over the level of people attending the park amid the coronavirus lockdown.

She said: "So we decided to walk to Strathclyde park as it’s two minutes from home with the kids for exercise and I’m speechless. I thought it was said people would be fined for traveling by car to walk yet the place is mobbed with cars I’m actually shocked."

On Monday, the UK and Scottish Governments announced an immediate lockdown, with strict limitations on people leaving their homes.

People are entitled to leave their home in order to exercise once a day.

However, many areas of the country have seen issues of overcrowding in parks and beaches as people go for their daily exercise.

On Friday, Scotland's Chief Medical Officer Catherine Calderwood said families could travel together in cars for short distances to exercise but should stay as close to home as possible.

However, there has been some confusion over the measures, with the public being told to avoid popular outdoor areas as much as possible in order to maintain social distancing rules.
