Video shows Conor McGregor being followed by gardai in Dublin before arrest

Video footage has emerged showing Conor McGregor being followed by gardai moments before the UFC star was arrested.

The clip captured police sirens being turned on as McGregor drives down a motorway in Dublin, with his face clearly visible from his convertible car.

Another driver is heard shouting "Up the Mac" before expressing their disbelief that members of An Garda Siochana are "pulling him" over.

The Dubliner was taken to Lucan Garda station after the incident, where he was charged before being released on bail, reports The Mirror.

His flash Bentley supercar, believed to be worth around €170,000, that he was driving at the time was also taken from his possession before later being returned to the fighter.

The video was uploaded to Twitter, but it is unclear whether or not the user took the footage themselves or was sent it by friends.

McGregor is now set to appear before Blanchardstown district court next month, where he will face his charge of dangerous driving.

A charge of dangerous driving in Ireland could see McGregor imprisoned for six months and fined as much as €5,000 if hit with the maximum punishment if he is convicted.

A Garda spokesperson explained in a statement that a man had been arrested for a driving incident on Tuesday, saying: "Gardaí arrested a man aged in his 30s in relation to an incident of dangerous driving in the Palmerstown area yesterday evening, Tuesday, March 22 2022.

"The man was taken to Lucan Garda Station where he was later charged. He has been released pending an appearance before Blanchardstown District Court at a later date."

McGregor's spokesperson said: “Mr. McGregor was driving to the gym when he was stopped by Gardai for alleged road traffic violations. He passed the drug and alcohol tests taken at the station."

The Irish fighter is expected to return to sparring next month ahead of his return from a serious injury suffered last summer. He broke his leg during a trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier, and is now angling for a world title opportunity against Kamaru Usman, the UFC welterweight champion.

He has recently been seen at his old boxing gym the Crumlin Boxing Club, and has also posted footage training with coaches outdoors. He will make a decision on his comeback fight next month after he has returned to sparring.
